Markus Weber discussed the Canadian Field Print Initiative with The Western Producer. He discussed the indicators utilized to measure environmental gains stemming from improved agricultural practices as well as the opportunities that the program should provide to farmers. The image included illustrates an example of an indicator for Canola Efficiency Indicators Over Time. The image shows that canola production efficiencies have improved significantly from a sustainability perspective, as measured by the four indicators. While the most significant improvement was in the area of soil loss, improvements in all of the other areas were at least 25% between 1986 and 2006. Over that time period, soil loss efficiency improved by 66%, energy use efficiency improved by 29%, and land use efficiency improved by 26%.
